HISTORY
OF TRAX FARMS....
Trax Farms
was established by Lewis Trax in 1865 and has been operated by the
Trax family for six generations.
George
C. Trax, son of Lewis Trax, inherited the farm in 1885.
Ralph
Lewis Trax, son of George C. Trax, was the next son to stay and
continue with the farm.
John,
George, & Al Trax, all brothers, stayed at the farm and are
the fourth generation of Trax's to operate the farm. In 1957, they
bought the present location and started the retail operation in
the bottom of the barn. In 1964, they formed Trax Farms Inc. At
this time the farm only sold produce, jams and jellies. In 1979,
they added on to the original barn to increase their selling space.
John
, Bob & Tim Trax are cousins and they are the fifth generation
to operate the farm. With the growing number of Trax children, they
expanded the market in 1986. This expansion added a Bakery, Deli,
larger "Gourmet" Grocery, Gift Shop, Garden Shop & Greenhouse.
At this time, the market started to be open year 'round. With Marge,
Doris & Diane, wives of the fifth generation working at the
farm with the next generation of sons, daughters and wives working
in the business.
Bob
& Patty Trax, Peggy Trax Coffield, Judy Trax Ross, Chuck Trax,
Bryan and Beth Trax, and Ross Trax are the sixth generation to operate
the farm. There are 15 family members presently operating the farm
as you see it today. The seventh generation, which consists of 12
kids, is also working at the farm. With the growth of the economy
and more children coming into the business, Trax Farms expanded
again in 2000. We have added 40,000 square feet of Nexus greenhouses
and 27,000 square feet of outdoor sales area. In this area, we have
added four more cash registers, a customer service counter, a gift
area that moved down from our loft, a much larger plant sales area,
a gardening and cooking lecture room and more.
